LAWS OF THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA APPLICABLE TO TRANSPORTATION COMPANY'S DRIVERS AND OPERATORS
"No person shall operate any public vehicle as a driver who is not licensed by the Minister so to do, and every such license shall be at the discretion of the Minister, and may be at any time canceled by him." P.V.A.-9
(By special arrangement, the driver's Montana license is used to identify an authorized driver in Alberta.)
"No driver of any public vehicle carrying passengers shall drink any intoxicating liquor during the time he is on duty or at any time use intoxicating liquors to excess." P.V.A.-12
"No driver of any public vehicle, carrying passengers shall smoke any cigar, cigarette, tobacco or other substance in such vehicle during the time he is driving the vehicle." P.V.A.-12
"Car must be brought to a dead stop before crossing a railroad track." P.V.A.-16
"Every public vehicle shall at all times be kept in a safe and sanitary condition, and any police officer shall have the power to inspect the same at all times." Rule 14.
"Skid Chains" must always be carried. Rule 15.
Daily test of brakes required. Rule 16.
Liquid fire extinguisher must be on car and in operating condition. Rule 17.
"No public vehicle shall be operated recklessly in an unsafe manner, or with disregard of the provisions of the Vehicles and Highway Act." Rule 18.
"No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway recklessly or negligently, or at any rate or speed which is unreasonable having regard to all the circumstances of the case, including the nature, condition and use of the highway and the amount of traffic which then is, or might reasonably be expected to be, on the highway."
"Any person driving any motor vehicle within any city, town or village at a greater rate of speed than 20 miles per hour, or at a greater rate of speed than ten miles per hour in turning a corner, or at a greater rate of speed than thirty miles per hour upon any highway outside of a city, town or village, shall prima facie be deemed to be driving at an unreasonable rate of speed."
"Any person driving a motor vehicle, when approaching or at a street corner or curve where the driver of the vehicle has not a clear view of the approaching traffic, at a greater rate of speed than ten miles per hour in a city, town or village, or twelve miles per hour outside a city, town or village shall prima facie be deemed to be driving at an unreasonable rate of speed.
"Any person driving a vehicle on any street or highway within any city, town or village shall drive such vehicle in such manner that the same shall not cross over from one side of such street or highway to the other side thereof between intersecting streets or highways."
