Glacier National Park contains 984,309 acres or 1,537 square miles.
There are more than sixty glaciers and three hundred lakes in the park.
Waterton Lakes Park has an area of 272 square miles.
The width of Glacier National Park along the International Boundary is 40 miles, that of Waterton Lakes Park is 23 miles.
It is 53 miles in a straight line from the International Boundary to Nimrod (Java), located at the most southerly tip of the park.
The longest north-south distance in the Canadian Park is 14 miles.
The lowest point in the American Park is the confluence of the Middle and North Forks of the Flathead River in the southwestern corner, 3050 feet; in the Canadian Park, it is on the Waterton River at the park boundary, 4050 feet.
The highest elevations for the two parks are Mount Cleveland (10,438) and Mount Blakiston (9,600).
Mountain Goat Swims Lake Elizabeth - Most animals can readily swim if occasion demands, a fact oft forgotten with creatures far dissociated from water. On a trip into the northeast portion of the park, a fishing party of United States Senators Walsh and Wheeler of Montana was greeted by a mountain goat swimming across Lake Elizabeth. The lake is slightly less than one-quarter mile wide.
